The Grand Plan

For a while there I wasn’t sure I’d make it on the plane, my last visa came back on Friday, I got the shots I needed on Saturday, my bag wasn’t properly packed until the morning that I left and even as I ran out the door on Sunday I realised there were still things I’d forgotten (it’s OK, I’ve got my shower thongs now!).
But somehow it all came together and I’ve caught my last glimpse of Australia for the next 6 months. However before I can get to Scotland to settle in for my four moth exchange at the University of Glasgow I must first traverse half the globe without ever getting on a plane.
My journey takes me through 16 different countries and 9 different currencies. I catch 8 trains, 3 boats and countless buses and taxis. I’m going alone with no knowledge of any of the languages and having never been to any of these countries before.

I’m going to try and avoid posting it all to Facebook so everything will be here or on my Instagram, @1ucy. Comment on on my posts or shoot me a message to say hi! I know I’d love to hear from you.
PS. The picture above is of the train as it comes into Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. I’ll be doing a post about the railway part of things once I’m in St Petersburg
